Mount Juliet Wedding | Rebecca & Dan’s Black Tie Celebration

This Mount Juliet wedding began exactly the way it should have.

With anticipation.

Rebecca and Dan had travelled from Phoenix, Arizona. Dan is three-quarters Irish. Photography matters to him. He sees it. Feels it. Responds to it. When someone loves photography the way he does, I pay attention.

Their ceremony took place in the Walled Garden at Mount Juliet Estate, with Rebecca making her entrance through the Moon Wall.

And when she stepped through that opening, framed perfectly, black tie guests seated, live music rising behind her from Eoin Dillon’s elbow pipes and guitar, it felt cinematic without trying to be.

I remember writing to them the next day:

“That moment you came through the MoonWall was absolutely stunning. It was like something out of a movie.”

It truly was.

A Walled Garden Ceremony at Mount Juliet Estate

The ceremony began at 3pm in the Walled Garden, weather permitting. And Ireland delivered.

Fifty-six guests. Intimate. Focused. Everyone present.

The celebrant was Connor Mickelsen, Daniel’s son. That detail shifts the tone immediately. This wasn’t a generic ceremony. It was layered with family.

Rebecca prepared in the Presidential Suite with Valerie O’Dea handling hair and Dawn Ryan Fahey on makeup. Black tie styling, composed, calm. Lennie Wall’s florals added just enough texture without overpowering the garden’s symmetry.

Rodolphe from Best Day Productions moved quietly alongside me. He has a steady presence. Understated. Professional.

The ceremony music carried across the lawn, soft but powerful. There’s something about elbow pipes in an enclosed Irish garden that just works.

And when Rebecca appeared through the Moon Wall, framed in stone, Dan waiting at the far end, it created a visual axis that made my job easy.

She had a good day. So I got good photos. It’s that simple.

Lady Helen & A Black Tie Atmosphere

Cocktails unfolded in front of the Manor House between 3:30 and 5pm. Mount Juliet Estate does this space particularly well. Guests with champagne. Music continuing. The façade anchoring everything.

Then came the call for dinner in Lady Helen.

If you’re hosting a Mount Juliet Estate wedding, Lady Helen shifts the mood. It tightens things. Focuses the energy. Fine dining under Jimmy’s coordination. Chef John overseeing the dessert course, including a private mini cake just for Rebecca and Dan.

Speeches came before the meal. Emily Mickelsen. Liam Mickelsen. Katie Rice. Then the couple themselves. Tight. Emotional. Efficient. Under fifteen minutes exactly as promised.

Afterwards, Becky wrote:

“You were everywhere at once! And everything felt so natural, allowing us to really enjoy and soak in the day.”

That matters to me. Especially with destination weddings. They trusted the process. They prioritised photography above every other vendor.

“Hiring a photographer was the #1 vendor we prioritised booking.”

When a couple tells you that before you even send a gallery, you feel the responsibility.

Portraits, Black & White & High Expectations

Dan had been clear in the run-up. Black-and-white images resonate with him.

After they watched the slideshow, he wrote:

“The B&W is astounding. Contrast and black point that are powerful and deeply evocative.”

That’s not casual praise. That’s someone who understands tonality.

So I leaned into it.

We stepped away briefly after the ceremony for portraits. Nothing theatrical. Just space. Light. Mount Juliet Estate as context. The Manor House is always visible somewhere in the frame. I like locations to be identifiable, especially for overseas couples bringing people home to Ireland.

Rebecca is, quite simply, a dream to photograph.

“You were right, Rebecca is gorgeous inside and out.”

She moves naturally. Doesn’t overthink it. Doesn’t perform. That’s half the battle won.

And Dan? He thinks he disappears in photos. He doesn’t.

He cried during the slideshow. He told me so.

“You have exceeded my exceedingly high expectations… The candid moments tell so much more story.”

That’s the goal. Story first. Always.

An Epic First Dance & Majors Bar Energy

Dinner concluded, and the transition to Majors Bar began.

Black tie loosened slightly. Energy rising. Eoghan O’Sullivan took over as DJ. And they kicked the reception off with their first dance.

They had practised.

And they absolutely pulled it off.

I wrote to them the next morning:

“The dance moves I saw from you two were nothing short of legendary. You REALLY pulled it off!”

It wasn’t awkward. It wasn’t tentative. It was confident and joyful.

From there, the party split into 1757 for the after-party underground. Intimate spaces. Tight frames. High energy. Exactly what you want at the end of a Mount Juliet, Ireland wedding.

One week later, their slideshow went live.

“OH MY GOSH we are absolutely blown away! Speechless. (And so many happy tears!)”

And from Dan:

“You have my deep admiration.”

There is something about smaller destination weddings that intensifies everything. Fewer guests. More connection. Higher emotional bandwidth.

This Mount Juliet wedding was black tie on paper, but warm and personal in reality. Phoenix roots. Irish heritage. A son officiating. A bride stepping through the Moon Wall as if it were written for her.

If you’re considering your own Mount Juliet Estate wedding, particularly from overseas, this is the balance to aim for. Intimate but elevated. Structured but relaxed. High standards, low stress.
