Bellinter House Shoot

Some favourite shots from a recent colaboration with Buds and Berries on location at Bellinter House is Navan, Co. Meath. I used quite a bit of Polaroid this time around, the b&w images below are from a batch that expired over 30 years ago. It held up amazingly well.

Rodolphe from Best Day Productions was there to catch a look behind the scenes ..

The material was featured on the One Fab Day website and also was published in Confetti Magazine.

Tipperary Wedding - Annemarie & Niall

Some images from a very recent wedding in Tipperary. Thanks to Annemarie & Niall for the great day.

Wedding at the Rectory in Glandore - Sam & Fay.

Some images from Sam & Fay’s wedding at The Rectory, Glandore, Co. Cork this summer.

Cloghan Castle Wedding

Caitlin & Nathaniel from Ontario came to Ireland this summer to get married. They were looking for a fairytale wedding and they found the ideal location at Cloghan Castle in Loughrea, Co. Galway. They brought 40 guests from Canada, most of them had never been to Ireland so it was a great to watch them immerse themselves in a place that is very Irish! Kate Deegan from Co-Me looked after all the planning.

Caitlin and Nathaniel said “we wanted to thank you for doing such a phenomenal job at the wedding. We really appreciated how professional, respectful, and helpful you were that day (even amongst all the chaos!), and we had an absolute blast hanging out with you!”

Here are some of my favourites:

The Tall Ships Waterford 2011

60,000 frames, shot over 3 days. Three weeks of planning and three weeks of editing! If you missed the Tall Ships visit to Waterford, here it is in its entirety in 10 minutes.

With thanks to Emmett Cooke for composing and performing the music and Mat Reilly who assisted and helped out with editing. Daragh Treacy looked after the custom engineering.

I plan to write a full blog post outlining how I did this. Until then I will be doing a talk and show about the project at Culture Night 2011 in Greyfriars, Waterford at 10pm on September 23rd. All are welcome. The highlight will be a screening of the show on a 3 metre screen in BluRay. I’m looking forward to it!

behind the scenes ..

thanks very much to Rodolphe from Best Day Productions who sent this clip to me. Its a behind-the-scenes look at a post wedding shoot with Sharon & Walter. I came across this strawberry growing facility near Enniscorthy in Co. Wexford before they covered the poly-tunnels and thought it would make an interesting shot. Here is the final result followed by the video. Thanks to Rodolphe, Sharon & Walter!

Pearl & Godiva shoot in Ballinatray House - as featured on 100layercake.com

Last April, I did a shoot with Sarah from vintage hire company Pearl & Godiva. Sarah, who is also a talented stylist went into overdrive and created a fantastic setting in Ballinatray House. A quick scout unearthed a few great locations on the grounds of the estate. Industry friends such as the award winning designer Bonzie Crotty, make-up artist Kate Rose Crean and cinematographer Rodolphe from Mary Best Day Productions helped to create a very unique shoot. The great weather helped a bit too.

The work was featured the popular blog http://www.100layercake.com/blog/ with some great comments like: “Delighted to see the best of Irish on 100 Layer Cake! Congrats guys!” and: “This is absolutely exquisite. Best shoot I’ve seen in forever.”

Here are some of my favourite images.

Inish Beg Wedding – Aoife & Chris tie the knot is a forest.

The weather in Ireland is at best unpredictable. This uncertainty normally casts doubt over long term plans for outdoor activities no matter what time of year. Aoife & Chris however were adamant that nothing was going to prevent them from tying the knot in a forest at Inish Beg near Baltimore, Co. Cork, Ireland, not even the famous climate. So much so that they had sixty umbrellas at the ready for their guests in case the rain came. As it turned out they did not need the umbrellas. Their gamble on the weather payed off in spectacular fashion  with cloudless skies and unseasonably warm weather for April. This is their day …

Sunday Business Post - when Alex met Martijn

I love shooting in kitchens. The manic activity is always a great environment to photograph in. Few are as active as the Cliff House Hotel’s Michelin star restaurant run by Head Chef Martijn Kajuiter. I was delighted to cover the story of journalist Alex Meehan as he went behind the scenes for a day - “exhausting and exhilarating” is how he described it! I used lots of dragged shutter with a pop of fill flash to bring out the energy of the kitchen. Here are some of the shots which were not used. (special thanks to Gillian Nelis, Bryan Walshe & Adriaan Bartels)
